Hole 1 – Bend Hagg, Par 5

Sponsored by: CJ Lightfoot Jewellers

Things get off to a fairly friendly start with a par 5 that yields more birdies than almost any other hole on the course.

The land slopes away to the right almost straight from the tee with trees waiting to catch drives pushed slightly. The ideal line from the tee is the left side of the fairway.

For the bigger hitters, a long precise drive makes the green reachable in two, but with deep rough and out of bounds on the left to punish a pulled shot, as well as bunkers to swallow up anything right of the green, the blind approach shot has to be taken on with care.

The percentage play is to leave a short third shot into the green from the bank, although it still leaves a blind approach, or closer to the putting surface.
