Richmond Golf Club Hosts the Green Howards Memorial Golf Day

Richmond (Yorks) Golf Club was the venue for the annual Green Howards and Phil O’Neil memorial golf day on Saturday, May 13.

The weather was perfect with 68 golfers enjoying a great day at the course.

Winners on the day were Bob Kirton for the Division 1 prize and Martin Dolan for Division 2.

Bob Purvis, Darrell Roberts and Mark Cook picked up prizes for nearest the pins and longest drive.

Ivan Rookes, Past Captain at RGC and a Green Howards veteran, helped organise the day and thanked all those involved in making it a splendid occasion.

RGC was delighted to host the event and has already agreed to do so again in 2024.

Paul Cutler wrote to the golf club, saying: “I would just like to thank you Ivan and Richmond Golf Club for allowing the FGH Green Howards Golfing Society to hold the Philip O’Neill Charity Golf Day at your lovely club. You even booked the sun.

“We had a fantastic day with friends, ex-colleagues and veterans, all coming together to play a round of golf and reminisce the times we shared with Phil as person, golfer and colleague in The Green Howards and Yorkshire Regiment.

“The course was in excellent condition given the recent weather conditions; please pass on our thanks to
the greenkeepers.

“A special thank you to all of the following individuals, Maggie and Tracey for keeping the beer flowing, Amanda and the team from Penleys for the lovely food that they provided, Glen and Julia for their help
throughout the day running the stats / leaderboard and Mick Campbell for running the simulator event.

“We raised a total of £2300 for Friends of The Green Howards. The money will go towards The Green
Howard Museum, who are celebrating their 50th Year.

“Once again I would like to thank you all from Richmond Golf Club for hosting this event, we are looking
forward to next year’s.”
