Richmond GC Hosts Yorkshire Inter-District Union Junior Team Championship

Richmond (Yorks) Golf Club was delighted to welcome the 38th Junior Team Championship for the Yorkshire Inter-District Union of Golf Clubs on Thursday 31st August.

This was a competition for Junior golfers to compete over 36 holes and featured all the Yorkshire District Golf Unions, including Teesside and District Golf Union, Leeds, Sheffield, East Riding, Bradford, Harrogate, York and Halifax and Huddersfield Unions.

The field included some of the best young talented golfers in Yorkshire, and the competition was hard fought. The results were as follows :

  • Team with the best aggregate score over 36 holes – Sheffield (758)
  • Best individual score over 36 holes – Luke Thornton – East Riding (144)
  • Best individual score round 1 – Will Hixon – Harrogate (74)
  • Best individual score round 2 – Jonty Butcher – Sheffield (71)

The Teesside and District Golf Union hosted the event with Steve Wood, Deputy President and Albert Nowicki, RGC Captain presented the awards and prizes.

Each of the eight Yorkshire Inter-District Golf Unions complimented all staff, officials and Greenkeepers at Richmond Golf Club for the splendid condition of the golf course and the hospitality enjoyed by all.

The winning team who were the Sheffield Golf Union, with their Union President, Mr Neil Leatherland.

Luke Thornton of the East Riding Golf Union who won the best individual gross score over 36 holes with scores of 73 and 71.
