Captain’s Handover 2020

Not our most traditional Handover, but here we are with our Past Captain Ivan Rookes and incoming Captain Martin Catt – who celebrates his 50th year as a member of RGC.

“I would like to thank members & staff of Richmond Golf Club for all the support they have given me throughout my Captaincy. It has been a truly challenging Year for all due to Covid19, however we still managed to get in alot of events and competitions before & after Covid lockdown.

“I would like to take the opportunity to thank a few people individually, those being Malcolm for giving up his evenings to do the quiz nights & being a fair quiz master! Barbara Gregory, the ladies Captain, for all her help and support throughout this turbulent year and not forgetting the board whom I would like to give my thanks too for the support they have given me.

“Last but not least I would like to thank Martin Catt, the 2021 Captain, for his help and support as my Vice Captain & wish him all the best for the following year, I hope it is a better one than the last year has been especially with it being his 50th year of membership.

“I am now looking forward to a well earned break & enjoying the next year playing golf and relaxing in the clubhouse with new found friends.

“Thank you for all your donations towards my chosen charity, The North East Autism Society, I will announce the final amount raised in December.

Thank you all once again.”

Ivan Rookes
Captain 2020

“On behalf of myself and the membership I would like to thank Ivan for his year Captaining Richmond Golf Club.

“It has been a disruptive year to be Captain but still Ivan has raised an outstanding amount of money for his charity North East Autism.

“I joined Richmond Golf Club 50 years ago and it is a privilege to Captain for a second time.
There is an element of ‘new beginning’ around the Club with Graeme Storm as head professional, catering by Dion Wood and a new Head Green Keeper in Ian Leversuch. All this has been brought about by the tireless hard work of Chris Lamb and the Board turning the Club around and giving us all the opportunity of a good golfing year in 2021.

“My vice-Captain will be Mick Campbell and I would like to thank him for courteously putting his Captaincy back a year to allow me to be Captain 50 years after I joined.”
