There's only one place to start with in this week’s content, the 2017 Captain Pro Challenge. Myself & Club Captain, Steve Willis were at Rudding Park on Wednesday hoping to secure a place in this year’s final in Morocco. And I'm delighted to announce we won on countback!

A solid 47 points secured victory however it was certainly a tense finish! Steve managed to hole out from the fringe on 18 for a birdie nett eagle, 4 points! Which proved to be the winning putt. Nerves of steel if you ask me!

It was a great day, course was in good condition, great weather and to win topped it all off really. We now head to Morocco for the final, in association with GolfPlan & SkyCaddie, which will be held between November 21st - 22nd at Mazagan Beach Resort, Casablanca.

My Assistant Josh was back in action last week playing in the Bambrugh Castle & Goswick Pro Am's. A pair of 74's resulted in a 20th finish at Bambrugh Castle & 15th place at Goswick. As for myself I could only manage a disappointing 79 at Goswick and a 74 at Barnard Castle.

For me the main positive last week was to be back playing golf without any back pain. During the past month or so I have been really struggling with my back and feared the start of what seemed to be signs of Sciatica. However after having two sessions with Vicky Rawle last week I have made a speedy recovery. For those of you who don't know Vicky, she specializes in "Bowen Therapy".

What is Bowen Therapy?

The Bowen technique is a gentle non-invasive therapy that treats the whole body, working on muscles, ligaments and tendons. It encourages muscles to relax, releasing muscle spasms and allowing the body to realign itself and encourages self-healing. If your struggling with your back or your body feels tight I would highly recommend you give Vicky a call on 07960570973. Tell her Bradley sent you!

The gents section played September medal on Sunday. The winner in division 1 with an excellent nett 67 was Stuart Dozey, runner up was Steve Mead with a nett 69. In division 2 Johnathan Jarvis won with a stunning nett 65 and runner up with a nett 67 was Alan Simpson. Finally in division 3, Mike Clare won with a nett 69 and runner up with a nett 71 was Dave Alderson. It's great to see so many #BRGolf clients at the top of the leaderboard this week. For me it's always pleasing to see the hard work we put in with our clients pay off. Whether it be custom fitting a player for new equipment or making some technical changes in the golf swing, we are here 7 days a week to help you play your best golf.

The Castle took place on Tuesday. The winner in Division 1 (0-15) with 21 points was Gary Catt, runner up was Martin Catt with 18 points. The winner in Division 2 (16 above) was Mark Wicks with 21 points and runner up with 20 was Mick Fenwick. Well done to all winners this week! The next round of the Winter Castle competition is Tuesday, 12 September. #GetInvolved

This winter I’m keen to continue running the Castle Competition. Having spoken to numerous members this seems to be a good idea. The plan is to keep it to a Tuesday until the clocks change, after this I will run the Castle Competition on a Saturday. However what are your thoughts on playing 9 holes or 12 holes on a Saturday?

The Ladies section played the Stableford 9 on Wednesday. The winner with 35 points was Pam Reddick, runner up with 32 points was Lady Captain, Barbara Willis. The ladies section were back in action on Sunday playing the Zetland Cup. The winner with a nett 72 was Penny Holroyd and runner up with a nett 74 was Vanessa Thomas.

The ‘Over the Swale’ Mixed competition was played on Friday evening. The winners with 41 points were Eileen McMullan & Gary Emerson. Runners up with 40 points were Penny Holroyd & John Simpson

Charity Pro-Am with Sir Ian Botham

On Tuesday we welcomed over 80 golfers to the club to take part in our 125 Charity Pro Am with Sir Ian Botham. A lot of work goes into the Pro Am and this was the best one yet!

Thanks to all the sponsors, volunteers, members of staff and most of all my family for helping me run the day. The golf course was in impeccable condition, the best setup I have ever played in my 6 years here at #RYGC. That was also voiced by so many of the Professional's I had spoken to.

Credit to Anthony Mcgeough (Head Greenkeeper) and all of his fantastic staff for presenting such a good golf course.

The other charity which we were raising money for was the Special Olympics Teesdale Swimming Team. It was great to see so many of the team members including Bradley's brother Adam turn up on the day with their medals. To be able to put on an event like this and to give something back to those who are not as fortunate as what we are inspires me. The grand total that was raised on Tuesday will be published in next week’s newsletter.

Richmond Golf Club’s Karen Jobling is crowned Yorkshire Veterans champion (Article inthe Northern Echo courtesy of Gary Emmerson)

Richmond Golf Club’s Karen Jobling has been crowned Yorkshire Veteran Ladies Golf Association champion - and will bid to follow up in the English Senior Women's Amateur Championship this week.

Jobling, an England senior international, came out on top after three days of competition at Crosland Heath Golf Club between May 8-10.

Jobling’s score of 81 on the opening day – the ninth best from an 82-strong field – was enough to secure one of 16 spots in the knockout stages and she came into her own in the matchplay to win the 2017 YVLGA Championship.

Jobling recorded an emphatic 7&6 victory over Shipley’s Linda Ireland in the quarter-finals before overcoming top seed Pat Wrightson of Huddersfield Golf Club 3&2 in the semi-finals.

There was no stopping Jobling in the final as she proved too good for Abbeydale’s Cathy Riley, winning 6&5 to lift the title.

Jobling will now feature in the English Senior Women's Amateur Championship at South Staffordshire Golf Club between May 15-19.

Karen qualified for the last 32 but unfortunately lost in the first round of matchplay. Good luck in the Northern Counties.

The Teesside Union Team lost at Seaton Carew but gained 8 valuable away points so are now lying second in the league after 3 weeks, just one point behind seaton with 2 home games coming up

The Ladies Weekend League team continued their unbeaten run with a 3v0 win over Bracken Ghyll but the Ladies A team lost to teesside on a very wet day.

Steve Mead made up the 4 stroke deficit to win the Orchard Salver & David Miller held onto his lead to win the Pete Collins Trophy
Keith Barker, Dave Stonehouse, Steve Fox & Alan Thorpe-Lawson won the Rotarity Charity Day Competition
The Greenkeepers got their revenge and the Toffs beat the Ladies.
The Captain's 66 hole challenge raised £310 for the ABF charity. He played 314 shots in 7 hours 33 minutes and walked 16.5 miles (26.4km). Thanks for your support and to Barbara Willis and Brian Launder who kept me company.

We celebrated our 125th Anniversary and two 90th birthdays in style
